It had been a rough couple of weeks for Talanador. Aside from the freakish Death episode, the Election, the Duels, and the troubles on the homeland of Urnst, the poor man didn't know how much more he could take before having some sort of breakdown. He needed a vacation himself.
Trouble was finding the time to get them.
Of course, he was also sitting in his office in the Dockside Baronial Manor because one of his operatives had a report that was imperitive for the Baron to read regarding the recent dark events happening on Urnst.
The Knock on the door told him that the operative was there. A loud grunt was all the response given to the knock but that was more than enough for the servant to take as an affirmative reply, open the door and announce that the Operative was indeed there.
"Operative Kirkland to see you, sir. He has an appointment." the Servant stated plainly, sticking to the formalities.
"Nnnn" was the reply.
Kirkland simply walked in, stood beside the chair across from G'norts desk and waited with his military had tucked neatly under his left arm. His right arm was moved into a stiff salute, which was held firm.
G looked up from his papers to the operative. "Kirkland. This isn't a military thing. You don't have to salute me."
"You are the leader of our grant country. It is my duty to salute you."
"Fine. At ease." G responded, giving a quick return salute so this stiff necked soldier could fake relaxing in front of him, then gestured to one of the two chairs. "So tell me, what news from Urnst?"
Kirkland shifted slightly, almost nervously as he took the chair. Before talking, he gave a somewhat sad look, then went to open a briefcase, pulling out notes and charts and more detailed information.
The Troubles that Plague the Homeland.

"Do you know the fabled land of Ravenloft, sire?" Operative Kirkland asked in trepidation, eyeing G'nort nervously.
That word always set the Baron into a tense mood. He looked left and right, almost expecting a mist to appear out of nowhere seeking to pull him into that land for a third time.
"I know it very well, Kirkland. Be careful when you mention the name, you never know what could happen when you invoke it." G finally responded, his mouth dry.
"Sir, it's fabled. It doesn't exist so there's no use worrying about it."
"Right. Go ahead and believe that. Anyway, what about it?"
"Well, as you know, the 'Land of Mists' usually takes in an area where someone commits an act of utter evil, as the story goes. And when it does that, creates a domain of evil on a demiplane where the being that committed the act rules that land, capable of controlling the borders and subjecting the people to their terrors."
"I'm well aquainted with the 'Land of Mists' abilities, Kirkland. What is it you're saying?"
Kirkland shifted slightly, as if unsure how to proceed. "Well sir, for all intents and purposes, it appears that our land of Urnst is having a similar effect."
G raised his brow. "What? Urnst is falling into Ravenloft? I'm not that evil!"
"No, no, Sir. Ravenloft doesn't exist. It's just that the 'Ravenloft Effect' as our office is referring to it, is happening to Urnst."
"Explain." G said, his head going into his palms.
"Well, the Drow sorceress Nyaranyara was on Urnst before you. Then you showed up, took control and led us into prosperity. Nyara then begam committing acts of evil. Through trial and error, we found out that she can seal her borders with great ice storms, making the passage through the mountains impassable. Ships trying to come in through the North get covered with so much ice that they either sink, or come terrifyingly close of doing so."
"She's a witch, of course she can cause storms."
"Then.." continued Kirkland, as if not hearing G's statement. "The Gnomes created an undead creature, you know him as 'Adam.' Well, apparently he has taken control of an area of land to the South East, which now becomes covered in an impenetrable fog, and if you get too deep into it, you begin to choke."
"Stupid Gnomes."
"Then there was the Marionette King, so he's called." sighed Kirkland. "The area in the MidWest where he is from is sealed off by a wall that no matter how much you break it, its always reformed. The Ghost Ship 'Ravens Revenge' has taken control of the East, and shipping is being lost there because they can't get free of a fog that noone can see."
"It's not a good report, Sir. Any acts of utter evil on our land seem to be causing this 'Ravenloft Effect.' We seem to be losing parts of our land, and can't find ways to end it."
"No. I don't suppose you could find ways. The only thing that can be done, is to have ways find the right people. That's not under our control. We're stuck with just hoping." Sighed the leader of Urnst.
"I don't suppose there's a large gathering of heroes anywhere on Urnst, eh?"
