After a month of being closed for remodeling, the Duel of Swords Arena officially reopened its doors on January 1st, 2016 in time for the beginning of the Winter 2016 cycle. Rayvinn had made several changes but where she could, she combined the old with the new in order to maintain the rich history of the sport while still trying to cater to a newer crowd.

--Remodeled Bar and Bistro.

While the original mahogany bar top was kept, Rayvinn decided that the bar area could use some sprucing up. The old shelving was torn down and the wall that had been five feet behind the bar was demolished. Using the old brick and stone from that wall, a new partition wall was created that ran the length of the bar and ended a few feet on each side, leaving a nice sized path to each side.

Shelves with backlighting were hung on various parts of the brick wall and bottles were aesthetically grouped according to the type of alcohol contained. There were some very high shelves that held the very best, and most expensive bottles, and below the bar were diamond shaped cubes to hold bottles of wine. Wine glasses were hung from racks above the bar and various other glasses were stored below. The cooler was a three doored contraption that was flush with the back counter attached to the brick partition, and contained many non-alcoholic drinks as well as many different types of beer and white wine. There were two sets of six tap heads, featuring a wide assortment of the Arena’s preferred local ale from Red Orc Brewery, such as Badsider and Skullsplitter Ales, non-alcoholic Broot, Silvermark, and a few other varieties of imported beer.

On the other side of the brick wall partition, and the reason for the wall being demolished, were half a dozen bistro tables with chairs; some were gleaming wood, some mosaic tile, some wrought iron and all had a mosh posh of chairs that were eclectic in their mismatching. View of the rings was blocked by the brick partition wall which created a cozier atmosphere. The lighting fixtures hanging over each table, emitting a soft glow, were as eclectic as the tables and chairs; some were various colored frosted glass globes, some copper, bronze, or brushed nickel fixtures.

The kitchen was easily accessible from either side of the partition, whether it be bistro or Arena proper and remained available to either side with the same types of snacks offered previously and new menu items available named after some of the more famous retired duelists. The kitchen staff and servers were well trained, pleasant, and as easy on the eyes as they were ready to assist the patrons.

--An Elevator

One of the callers had once mentioned having an elevator installed in the Arena because those with disabilities couldn’t use the stairs. With so many drunks in her Arena, she also needed it so she wasn’t slapped with a lawsuit when someone broke their neck after falling down the stairs. She’d argued with Brandon Fox for nearly an hour that she couldn’t be held responsible for those drunks or those lacking grace but he’d finally convinced her otherwise. Rayvinn wasn’t entirely certain what an elevator was or how it worked, but after researching the topic she thought she had found what was needed.

A vintage style elevator car, complete with gleaming wooden paneling, a chandelier, and a plush divan to seat four, was installed to rise from the Arena to a shadowy corner upstairs in the main room of the Red Dragon and descend into the Annex. There was an elevator attendant, resplendent in his 1920’s style uniform and cap, at the ready to pull closed the gate that prevented the patrons from falling from the bouncy contraption. This elevator, perhaps not what the technically advanced would prefer, was operated entirely by magic and could be unpredictable at times. Oh, and if you happen to hear voices or something strange happens in the elevator? Don't be too alarmed, those are just the elevator car ghosts.

--Gift Shop and Arena Museum

The elevator has a stop for the upper part of the Arena where the sky boxes are located. Down the hall from the skyboxes is a gift shop that sells team merchandise from the old TDL days, Hydra, as well as IFL and Ragnarok; replicas of banners for all of the current barons as well as those of old; replicas of the Overlord mantles beginning with Gondar and continuing through the most recent Overlord; Fytco dolls depicting duelists; bobbleheads of favorite duelists, their autographed books and posters; foam and wooden toy replicas of weapons wielded by some of the most famous duelists. Rayvinn also decided to stock bagged snacks; fresh fruit; sodas; bottled water; packets of various herbs for pain and hangovers, condoms, and a variety of other items that might be needed by those utilizing the skyboxes.

Next to the gift shop was a small Duel of Swords Museum where all of the old banners from duelists past were hung on the walls with photographs or painted likenesses of the retired greats. Photographs also depicted many of the historical matches that were still being discussed over two decades later.

((There is more to come but these are the most prominent changes. I intentionally avoided using pictures and left much of it vague in order for everyone to imagine it how they would.))

((Edited to add the bit about elevator car ghosts. Thanks to Hope's player for coming up with the idea; I think we can get a lot of fun RP out of that.))
