The Sculptor Starts

Post by Bailey Raptis »

Over the weekend and into Monday, a veritable army of goblins from Twilight Isle fanned out through the city of RhyDin and Twilight Isle. Over the course of those 72 hours or so, they pushed countless carts draped in white fabric, obscuring whatever might be beneath those sheets. Only when they arrived at their destinations – the four elemental Towers on Twilight Isle, the Outback, the Arena, the Annex, the Red Dragon Inn, several art museums, fountains, and sculpture gardens – did the goblins remove the covers on the deliveries and reveal what they had been pulling around.

Wherever space allowed, they set up a marble statue of what appeared to be a person, carved to scale. It was impossible to tell what gender the statue was supposed to be – the body followed an androgynous style, dressed in a tunic that went down from the neck to near the feet. The hair had also been sculpted to give no clear gender impressions, cut in a fashion that both men and women might wear. Not only did the face follow the epicene pattern of the rest of the sculpture, it did not even resemble any known individual. Rather, it almost appeared to be a mask, a generic depiction of all the parts a face might have without corresponding to anyone in existence. It was almost as if a viewer could project whatever person they wanted to upon those blank features. In locations where a full-sized statue wasn’t feasible – the mantelpiece inside the Red Dragon Inn, for instance – a marble bust with a similar design was placed instead.

If asked what they were doing, the goblins would merely reply, “The Archmage wills it, and we obey his will,” before scurrying off to their next task or returning home to the Isle.

((Feel free to have your characters comment on, fold, mutilate, spindle or do whatever to the statues! If I’ve missed a spot where you’d like them delivered, feel free to assume the goblins brought one there. :) ))
