Beltane 2017: The Battle of Beltane

Post by JewellRavenlock »

Date: Saturday, 6 May 2017
Time: 9:00pm RST
Location: The Feygarten (OOC--TBA)

The story goes that when Beltane arrives each spring, the May Queen arises from her winter's sleep and does battle with the Queen of Winter. Wait wait… no no, that’s not right. In RhyDin, it’s the King of Winter she must fight! Duh. So the May Queen must fight off the King of Winter and win, sending him away for six months so that the earth can become abundant once more and spring will reign.

This year, the May Queen (Jewell Ravenlock) has called upon the people of RhyDin to help her defeat the King of Winter (Terry King), but the wily King of Winter has other plans!

Come out on Saturday, May 6th and join the Battle of Beltane.

The fate of spring is in your hands!

((This is going to be a loss free night in all three dueling sports. Stay tuned for more details!

Information taken from The Mythology of May Day and The Legend of the May Queen.))

The Rules
Every fight will imitate the great battle between the May Queen and the King of Winter. Before the start of each duel, the caller will assign one fighter to represent the May Queen and one to represent the King of Winter. Each fighter will be gifted special skills according to their alliance for that duel.

Each win is worth 1 point for the May Queen or the King of Winter. Whichever side has the most points the end of the night is victorious! We certainly hope it’s the May Queen.

Everyone who takes up arms, magic, or their fists on behalf of the May Queen or the King of Winter will suffer no penalty if they lose the fight.

There is no need to sign up ahead of time. Dress up, show up, and duel! All participants will receive a gift for participating.

OOC: The Rules

All three sports are available for this night.

More importantly: This is a loss forgiveness night IN ALL THREE SPORTS! Duel as much as you want and suffer no penalties for losing but keep your wins!

Contact the caller on duty (or the queue keeper if things get busy) with your opponent to arrange for the duel. He or she will assign an alignment to each fighter. The “special skills” can be anything you want. A frosty jab, a sword made of flowers, or spring/winter-y magic skills.

At the end of each fight, a point will be awarded to the May Queen or the King of Winter depending on the winner. Each dueler may end up fighting on different teams throughout the night.

Everyone who comes out to the event (whether they duel or not) will receive a special icon to commemorate this event.
