Tower of Earth Features for Future Keepers

Post by DemiBob »

I wanted to quickly compile a list of features/changes left by Bob for future Tower of Earth Keepers to reference or explore. If past or future Keepers of Earth want to contribute to the list, please feel free.

Face of Bob: Once a mile tall and plastered to the front of the Tower of Earth, this stone replica of Bob's mug could be animated to address the entire Isle whenever he had something to say. Immediately upon losing his match to Jacen, Bob had it destroyed. The rubble is still at the foot of the tower. See this for the comic that went with it.

Mining Operation: Bob mined the Tower of Earth (and much of the ground beneath it) for precious metals, which he then converted into gold and platinum to be sold to various markets in the multiverse. At peek operation, Bob made over a trillion dollars a day. Jesse, the Tower of Fire Keeper at the time, was his partner, and he employed various other characters for small cuts of the profits. Bob left the operation in the hands of Jesse until he had to turn his Key over to Jacen.

Undead: Tunnels beneath the Isle are full of undead, thanks to Jesse, and Bob discovered them during some of his exploring of the Tower. He let them out and used them for labor. He instructed Jeeves, his personal assistant, to have them rounded up and returned to the tunnels at the end of his Keepership.

Ahni's Vegetables: There remains a well hidden grow room deep within the Tower where Dave the Ent grows Ahni's vegetables.

Candy Apple Tree: Even more well hidden, Bob produced a unique form of plant life after consuming far too many of Ahni's vegetables, combining the powers of the Tower of Earth and Bob's own unique magic. It was originally going to be for a Candy Apple Tournament akin to the Golden Apple Tournament, but real life got in the way of getting it started.

Portals to the Tower of Fire: As part of the mining operation, Bob and Jesse had portals running back and forth between each other. The portals operated by various means (some ran through 4th dimensional space, others through the elemental plane of fire, and other still were functionally 'normal').

Rail system to the Tower of Fire: Also a part of the mining operation. HIGHLY UNSANE. Bob was more concerned with doing high speed train corkscrews than he was with moving material to the Tower of Fire.

Recording Studio: While Keeper, Bob recorded and released an album. The studio is still there. It is of the highest quality.

I really should have added to this a while ago, but here are some things I played into while Mallory was Keeper of Earth:
  • There is confusion among at least one of the Isle goblins regarding how exactly to address the Keeper of Earth, and may refer to someone as "Keeper [Name] of the Coarse / Medium / Fine Earth!" It is unclear how widespread this has become.
  • In the clearing before the Tower entrance, there are a number of overgrown statues from when the witch was teaching herself how to shape stone. One of them is an unseelie assassin named Ruithen Fangborn, who has been petrified since April 24th, 2019.
  • Bubblegum and peppermint lodes have extruded themselves into the Tower's lower chambers, perhaps a lingering effect of the activities of a previous Keeper.
  • There are a number of dust mephits who help or helped to maintain the library. Their penmanship is exceptional as a result of many, many hours of transcribing various tomes for Mallory's own collection.
  • There is a blank ledger in Mallory's handwriting located in one of the studies that has an index listing dated exchange rates for various gemstones and precious metals, as well as numbers for how much of given materials she found she personally was able to transmute in a single day.
  • There is a stream that cuts across the clearing in front of the Tower, inhabited by a massive elemental named DROXX (capitalization is key), who refers to himself in the third person and is quite friendly, though rather loud.
  • There is another elemental of gray basalt with olivine eyes named Tachya, and she acts as a steward of sorts to help guide the Keeper around the Tower.
  • Deep within the Tower is a grotto lit by strange crystals, filled with pools of clear, cold meltwater that is well suited for scrying and divination.
  • There are a few underground gardens. One of them contains a few common "recreational" plants.
None of these are set in stone (har har) but are things that I played as being aspects of the Tower, and future Keepers are welcome to do whatever they like with them.

Jin's time in the Tower 2018-03-19 - 2019-03-11, she too cultivated Ahni's vegetables (read also: marijuana) garden. Excess was sold for a nice little profit.

During Morgan's time at the tower, he had built a terraced garden out of obsidian and black marble, polished to a mirror finish to reflect the twilight sky so it would seem as if you were walking on the faint starlight. In the garden proper are many statues, unsettlingly lifelike, and many trellises dripping with wisteria that never seems to shed its petals, and lavender swaying throughout. Crystalline roses climb up a few (purposefully) ruined white marble columns, and red ones grow heavy at the bases of statues.

On the upper tier of the garden, big enough for a rather large party, there are beautiful banisters that are covered and coated in English Ivy. Or perhaps the Ivy is carved into the stone itself.

From Claire's time in the Tower of Earth;

This was Pre-Ahni, so she didn't have a stash of marijuana. But she did have a wonderful Earth elemental named Àdhamh. He had a habit of moving through the walls by simply becoming a part of the earthen walls. Faster that way, you know? He was large, at least 7 and a half feet tall, and trailed little curls of dust behind him when he walked. Àdhamh was very polite, well mannered, and incredibly gentle for his size. He served as an attendant though Claire thought the most interesting part of him was that he was like a walking tea plant. He could grow tea leaves from the earth of his limbs and could make a stellar cup of tea in trade. During Claire's time, the Tower of Earth had a wonderful selection of teas of all sorts, kept in wooden jars in the kitchen pantry. He liked to enlist 3 smaller elementals, one of stone (named Ila), one of clay (named Nuna), one of iron (named Zola), who kept tabs on Claire while she was Keeper and did a lot of Adhamh's dirty work. Feel free to utilize them, just be kind to the big guy <3

Speaking of tea, the Tower of Earth has a dainty porcelain tea set, its design pure white accented by curly green vines that snaked around the rim and down a gold accented handle. Here and there the leaves on the vines seem to tremble as if blown by a gentle breeze.

There's at least 4 bathrooms that Claire found, each more ridiculous than the one before.

Somewhere deep in the tower lives/lived a dryad named Nissa. She was a refugee from the Golden Apple Tree that Harris grew in the Outback during the time Claire was Keeper of Earth. She's sweet but speaks in infuriating riddles and can be really hard to understand. Pretty standard dryad looks. Claire offered her refuge when the tree came down.

Kira's time as Keeper wasn't particularly long, but not needing sleep means she got a fair amount done.

-She increased the output of the mines, sending the bulk of the metals and gems back to the Adia Estate to feed her forge. Some of the minerals were processed and sold, leaving Kira with a decent source of funding set aside for business expenses.

-She worked with the mephits in the library to review the organization in use and reorganize the entire collection. It was a project that would last beyond what she anticipated to be her reign, but the groundwork was laid for the continuation of the project for as long as future keepers allowed it. The new system, when complete, would allow anyone to find what they needed with or without the help of the mephits.

-A significant collection of books and other works were copied and added to Kira's collection at the estate library. A specific mephit she would come to know as Lucien left the service of the Tower to become chief librarian for the Adia Estate Library, as well as Kira's private collection in her home.

-A series of terraced farms were carved into a nearby mountain and enclosed in domes meant to allow for adjustable climate conditions. During her tenure, these were used to create new varieties of tea, with workshops and laboratories carved into the mountainside to support that endeavor. She took the most successful of those cultivars to be grown on the Adia Estate, for her own use as well as for sell and distribution. The failed crops were culled and replaced with high-grade, though standard, cultivars to prevent anyone else form growing the same type, though the domes could be swapped with different crops if desired.

The general gardens on the grounds of the Earth Tower flourished quite nicely during both of Rachael Blackthorne's custodianship reigns.

During Rachael's second reign, she and the Fire Keeper at that time, Mallory Maeda, jointly created The Gardens, a huge public garden, in the valley between the Earth and Fire Towers. An incident on the Isle gravely decimated The Gardens, killed two Earth Elementals, gravely weakened Beroan (the Great Dragon who patrols the Great Reefs), polluted some of the water around the Water Tower and decimated some of the coral reefs around that Tower. Joint efforts by Max Lager, Mallory Maeda, Eregor Túr Gairdín (the current Water Keeper), the Isle Pixies, Alasdair Galloway, and Rachael Blackthorne restored The Gardens to their former glory.

Many persons have contributed plants, seedlings and trees to The Gardens over time. There is a memorial garden there that is maintained diligently by the Garden Warden, Mayflower Katz.

Earth Elementals mentioned during Rachael's reign:
Chwythbrennau (Woodwind)
Ffermwr and Garddwr (Farmer and Gardener, deceased)
