More to come.

[Edit 9/24/07: Made changes to reflect a more midieval setting, where an army of 10,000 soldiers would be a large number, rather than the rediculousness of pulling an army of 2 million soldiers or what not out of thin air.]

The Island Nation of Urnst is an elective monarchy in such a way that the people decide who rules the land, and when that is decided, that person becomes the ruler until death. Currently, the ruler is Gustavus G'nort Esplenade G'neesmacher Dragoon-Talanador III. Strange circumstances brought him about to the nation, where they immediately saw fit to declare him the new King, as they had been without one for some time previous. Fate being what it is, Talanador managed to create order out of chaos and improve the overall quality of life for the barbaric people of the land.

Significant technological advances, due to his affiliation with a group of Gnomes assisted greatly in creating a preindustrial nation. Now, most of their power is steam based and the partnership with the Gnomes has caused Urnst to become not necessarily a world power, but a strong, independent nation capable of existing without any outside assistance if the borders were to be closed.

Oddly enough, Urnst falls within the effects of Mordrahan's Belt, which causes the existence of technology to falter seriously. In fact, the main reason that Urnst runs on Steam based power. Nothing beyond Steam works and there's some issues into attempting to make a train work. Trains are only in the experimental stage at the moment. Boats run on steam engines are too costly, and the benefits are not enough to convert or build a fleet based on such power.
