Seems Bran beat me to announcing the winner of the tournament...

Vinny, Neo, and Topaz all got to duel for the chance to challenge the Archmage Bran. Round robin format was used, with Match Point Differential to decide if there was a tie. (there was by the way)

First match had Vinny and Topaz slinging spells! Topaz grabbed an early lead and held it all the way to the end, winning 5-4 in 10 rounds.

Neo then got to try his hand at Vinny. Except for round 5, Neo held the lead all the to the 13th round. Vinny had scored 2.5 points unswered at this point, and gained another the next round for the win. 6-4.5.

That only left Neo and Topaz. They didn't disapoint, either. Neo took the lead early and ran! While it may have seem close the whole way through, Neo never gave up the lead and won 5.5-4.

Since we ended with a three way tie, the winner was decided by MPD. Topaz has -.5, Neo ended even at 0, and Vinny won the tournament with .5! That's right, only half a point margin of victory!

Well, since this never got posted, I figured I'd fill those who don't know in on what happened between Bran and myself.

The first duel was back and forth for a while, neither of us getting too far ahead until I scored 2 straight to seal it 5-3.5. In the second, Bran came out firing and jumped up 2-0. I almost had the makings of a comeback going, bringing the score to 3.5-4, but then he put me away to force a third duel. That last one started much like the second, Bran taking and early 2-.5 lead. I then got in my zone, scored 3.5 unanswered points to take a 4-2 lead, then we ended in a hail of blades flying around, giving me a 5-3 win.

Props to Bran for holding it as long as he did. I'm sure he'll be coming after me in two months.

In other news, as once again Archmage, I will be taking a cue from the other venues and posting my rules up here shortly.

This Wednesday Bran and Vinny met for the Arch Mage Challenge. Vinny took the first win of the best of three with a score of 5-3.5 after 13 rounds. The win of the second duel was claimed by Bran after only 8 rounds with a score of 5-3.5. The third and final duel lasted only one round more than the second. About half way through Vinny took the leads from Bran and then kept adding to it. While Bran managed to claim one more point in the last round trade of wizard blades, the trade gave Vinny the win.

All hail the new Archmage Vinny Smith.
