Pizza and Beer -- A Tony Graziano Production

Post by Maria Graziano »

Across the street from the Kitsune Stadium, which after the demise of the TDL served only as a concert venue and home field to the Kitsune Lions baseball franchise, sat a two story red brick building that housed a greasy spoon eatery for near on twenty years. When the operators decided to sell out and retire to a warmer region, a new owner moved in to buy them out. Throughout the fall, the buzz in the blocks surrounding the stadium were of the mysterious new owner and the ongoing renovations.

By November, a navy blue awning went up across the brick building and declared the new name of the eatery in white lettering to be "Pizza and Beer". Shortly following the discovery of the simple name came the surprising news that the new owner of the pizzeria was the Wrecking Crew's own Tony Graziano.

The Wrecking Crew always fully committed to their ventures and the second youngest Graziano seemed to be no different in this one. He hired his good friend and well-known RhyDin celebrity chef, Mike Grimaldi, to handle the back of the house operations and together they put together a stellar menu that had pizza critics around town heralding it as the city's best pizza joint even before it was officially opened.

The interior, with its red brick exposed and its low overhead lighting, gave the pizzeria a warm neighborhood pub feel. Leather booths lined a wall while dark wood tables sat speckled through out the white and black patterned tile floors without table cloths to give it a more casual feel. Much of the kitchen was open to the restaurant to show off its clay wood-fire ovens and the acrobatic talents with dough tossing and spinning that Chef Grimaldi and his crew prided themselves on.

The wait staff dressed casually in dark jeans and button-down shirts but on nights of big games they were known to sport their favorite team's gear. A juke box in the corner always had a queue of songs to set the mood.

A short bar sat against the wall opposite the booths and was manned by only the best looking young women in RhyDin who had to be handpicked by the owner himself. The bar was well-stocked with not only RhyDin favorites but also the Crew's Earth favorites. Monday nights were Red Orc Brewery nights with specials on not only bottles of Badsider but also Skullsplitter while Thursday nights there were specials on Silver Mark drafts.

Needless to say, it was not unusual to find a member of the Crew dining in the pizza joint. Their photographs and dueling memorabilia dotted the walls. Even the next generation of Grazianos had their stamp on the place as both of Tony's nieces and his nephew had their favorite item on the kids' menu named after them. There was Adie's Lasagna, Alicia's Spaghetti, and TJ's Pepperoni Pizza.

Come in. Make yourself at home. Welcome to Pizza and Beer.
