InterGender War: Jan 3, 2011 - Mar 27, 2011!

Post by DUEL Jaycy »

InterGender War is here!

The randomly occasional event is back and this time it’s super-sized!

What is it?

The InterGender War was an event that began in the Duel of Fists Outback and was the ultimate brawling battle of the sexes. Led by a loudmouth named Ria (then assistant supervisor of the Duel of Fists), the ladies sought to prove that they were just as tough and able to dish out an ass-kicking as the guys and didn’t need to be coddled within the rings by guys who wouldn’t hit ladies (like Sartan). The concept was simple – brawlers of opposite sexes stepped in the ring and whoever won the fight scored a win for their side. Most wins at the end of the cycle determined which sex had the bragging rights. InterGender War has come and gone intermittently through the years as a special event in the Duel of Fists.

For this run, though, we’re taking it out of the Outback and to the Isle and Arena – InterGender War is going duels-wide!

How does it work and how can I help?

Participating in the InterGender War is as simple as getting in a ring with someone of the opposite sex during official dueling and fighting that person until someone wins or for 15 rounds (whichever occurs first).

There is no special equipment or preparation needed – just a willingness to beat on the other sex! Any official duel between a male and a female count, whether with swords, spells or fists. And fear not, gender-neutrals (like Renne)! If you want to participate too, it’s as easy as picking a side, telling the official, and fighting on. (No switching sides, though!)

Only official duels fought between January 3, 2011 and March 27, 2011 count – a duel is official only if it is called by a sanctioned caller ((DUEL host)) during regular dueling hours (tournament wins don't count). As part of this special event there will be a Monday night 9-11pm (or later, depending on attendance and caller interest) ((ET)) shift on Twilight Isle (for the duration of the war).

How do we know who wins?

Overall, the sex with the most wins is the winning sex. However, individual statistics will be kept so we can all see just how helpful (or not) we’ve all been to our faction.

Ladies and guys from each sport with the highest modified win percentage will be the individual winners and the top percentage holder from qualified fighters will win the overall honors. If multiple duelers tie in modified win percentage they will all be considered individual co-winners. Modified win percentage will add the base win percentage with bonuses for win totals over the minimum number of top-bracket qualifying duels.

Ties in individual duels will be allowed. Base percentage will be calculated as:

wins/total duels (including ties).

For each sport, duelers will be divided into two brackets based on the number of duels they have participated in. The top bracket will consist of duelers who have fought more than the average number of duels and the bottom bracket will consist of those who have fought fewer than the average.

The average will be calculated as:

total number of duels/total number of duelers.

Only those in the top bracket in each sport will be eligible for that sport’s crown and a dueler must be in the top bracket for all three sports to qualify for overall honors. If no one qualifies for the top bracket in all sports, there will be no overall individual winner.

Modified win percentage will be calculated as follows. For every win above the minimum qualifying number for the top bracket, a dueler will be awarded +2% with no restrictions.* Thus, a dueler may earn over 100% even without a perfect record. For example:

Dueler Record: 9-1
Base Percent: 90%
Minimum Qualifying Duels: 3
Bonus Percent: 12% (6 wins over minimum x 2% per win)
Modified Percent: 102%

What will we get?

Beyond bragging rights for the winning sex? Achievement badges!

I still have questions!

If you still have questions, feel free to post them here or send a message to DUEL Jaycy.

* This method of scoring, modified win percentage, was modeled after the old Duel of Fists’ Emerald Ranking System (ERS) and is used, in small part, to pay homage to the original sport to participate in the InterGender War.

Rules Addendum/Clarification:

For the rest of IG War (I realize there's only 3 more days...), the following addendum/clarification will be in effect. If there are IG Wars run in the future, without a rule change, this is intended to be part of the formal process.

If you have a character that is obviously male or female (through profile or RP) and do not wish what would normally be considered an IG duel to count on the standings, you must:

1) Inform the official and opponent
2) publicly (preferably IC)
3) before the match is called to a ring by the official (your opponent must have knowledge before accepting the duel).

Further, this must be done before every duel you do not wish to count. There will not be a character "opt-out" list.

Any requests that do not conform with the addendum/clarification will be ignored.
