Don't ye remember yer dear baby daughter?

Post by Capreae »

Emerges from the captains cabin where he'd been counting the proceeds of the evening, and he has a metal briefcase with a combination lock attached to his wrist with a handcuff. This was all going to a very needy charity. We won't say who. He has some surprise to see that there is still fighting going on and he stands on the quarterdeck to look over them all. Scowling, of course, at all the so-called pirate talk going on.

Look, way up high! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Heck no, it's just another of G'nort's spawn, though this likely the most infamous in all of Urnst, nearly rivaling her father for shenanigans or downright cutthroat piracy. The daring woman leapt from the platform to catch some of the rigging and quickly slid down, the thick leather gloves protecting sword callused hands from the burn of the rope as it slid through them. One booted foot locked loosely over the other to assist her descent to the ship's deck. Just how long had she been up there watching and waiting anyway? Only so long as it took until a certain redheaded man, a far less attractive and much older version of herself, appeared. Heavy soled boots thudded upon the deck and she was quickly swaggering, as only one at home upon a ship and accustomed to walking upon the slick wood as it rocked and sayed, could. "Well, 'ello daddy dear. Remember yer long lost baby girl?" Cue the first time in countless years that Capri raised a fist to thrust at the nose of her father, though not the last, certainly.

It had been years since he last hear a voice so familiar. Musical even. There could only be one or two women who he knows who would have that tone in their voice, and only one who would ever call him 'daddy dear.' But that shouldn't be possible, because he was sure that she was in a convent, well on her way to becoming a full fledged nun of some hokey religion. It was the sounds of the booted feet on the wooden deck that first caught his attention, and then the voice, so he was turning just in time to see the incoming fist heading dead ahead towards his face. Reflexes may have slowed a little but he was still able to dip his head to the left and only have the side of his head grazed by the incoming knuckle sandwich. "Hey!" Then, the briefcase was held up before him to protect his chest, just in case. Fighting with that attached to a wrist would not be very easily done. He peered at the younger, prettier version of himself and had a moment of being actually shocked. Taken by surprise to see her here.

"That all ye 'ave to say when it be nigh on eight years since ye been seein' yer dear baby daughter? Ye do remember, aye?" The look of scorn flared within blazing blue-green eyes; scorn and a hint of something akin to amusement.

"What?" Blink blink. The case lowers slightly as he looks down at those firey pair staring at him."I mean.. of course n.. " Pause. "What?" It was the accent that got him. It took a few moments for his mind to wrap around the translation, he'd been with the types of people enough to know the pattern but sometimes, like in moments of sudden shock, it takes some time to get through it all. "I.. of course! Of course I know you." Wets his lips. "Ca.. Candy.. Cassiop.. Cap.. Capreae! Capreae. Capreae? What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be" Locked away for the rest of your life in a convent becoming devoted to some religious deity? "..to be devoting time to your studies?" She'd served a purpose in her youth and he was always glad for her assistance in his nautical endeavours, and he had made sure she'd be well taken care of. But he hadn't ever expected to see her again.

With each wrong name, exotic shaped eyes narrowed more and more until he finally spoke the correct name. The glare held, his own eyes the target, and a dangerous smile curved upon lips made for lies and sin. "Aye, ye'd think so. Decided to be testin' out me sea legs and put to good use what ye taught me all them years ago." A harsh bit of chuckle escaped as she nearly spat the next words. "Been followin' in yer footsteps. E'erybody that be anybody in Urnst knows of me. Carryin' on the family business and name. Ain't ye proud?" There was no doubt where she received that biting sarcasm from.

"Right." Treading somewhat dangerous waters, metaphorically speaking. But then he wouldn't be who or where he was if he wasn't able to handle the more difficult situations in life. "Business and name. Really?" At first proud, then understanding there was more than one aspect to the business and name. She was a woman, after all. "Which part of the name do they know?" Reputation, and all that. Business side of things would be relatively easy to understand. She was his daughter. One he hadn't seen in over twelve years, but still his daughter.

"That I be the sweetest Talanador upon the seas, o'course." The words were followed by a snort and a short bark of a laugh. "Certainly the best lookin', ye let yerself go, old man. Gettin' an ale gut." She shook her head in exaggerated pity, before cocking a hip to the side and planting a gloved hand upon it. "Best just to say none will welcome me back with open arms." That was putting it mildly.

"An ale gut, what?" Looks down at his stomach. "I don't hardly drink, and certainly not ale." He smirks slightly "Only the sweetest and best looking because I don't get much 'business' at sea anymore. I'm mainly land based now." He's not going to tell her where his ship is. No way. "Not welcoming you back, is that so? Well, you must be doing something right by your old man, then." Purses his lips. "Are you going after Urnst shipping lanes?" Could his own daughter, who he doesn't trust, or who doesn't have reason to trust him and perhaps even have a vendetta, be going after the homelands goods? "I mean... I'm proud of you and all. Just want to make sure my interests are safe."

"Ahh daddy dear. Didn't ye teach me to ne'er share my secrets with e'en one or it'd be secret nae more? Yer one, aye? Now, buy me a bottle and tell me all about yer life since ye dropped me off at the convent. Ye might want t’ send the sisters a large donation in apology, by the way." Yes, she had been that bad.

"Should you be drinking at your age?" No doubt his dear little girl is all grown up and has done far worse than drink. But that's a story for later, no doubt. "And yeah, no giving away secrets, though since I'm your father you shouldn't hold secrets from me." How many secrets did he have? What would he tell her. He gestured towards the area where they were serving the alcohol here and nodded. "After you, and I can fill you in. If it's your reputation and safety you're concerned about, you've come to the right city to hide out in. They don't come looking for our kind here." He gave her a sly little grin. "As to donating to the convent.. well, if they find me, I'll consider paying them off." He wouldn't.

"Who's hidin'?" She was but would never admit to it. "My crew takes care o’ me and I take care o'them. That be all a cap'n can ask for, ye kin?" When they arrived where the alcohol was served, she propped up a booted foot. "I ain't been young since birth, ye made certain o'that, aye? I'll 'ave an ale with rum chaser."

At the sound of clapping, those blue-green hues searched for the source of the sound and an appraising gaze was cast over Peaches before returning to her father. "This city seems a good place to cool m'heels for a bit..."

He gestures to the tender. "Rum and ale for the lady, nothing for myself." He turns to face Capri and smiles. "So, you've got yourself a crew now, too? Scourge of the Seas and all of that? Good, it's good to have a crew you can trust, but, you know, always be wary." He taps the counter as the drinks arrive. "Well, maybe not young. Made sure you had a valid trade to get into at least."
"It is. Lots of opportunity here, kinda why I dug my heels in and made a name for myself here. You know us Talanadors. Better famous and infamous." Grins, following her gaze a moment to Peaches, another smile, and then back to Capri pensively.

Buzzing laughter can be an infectious thing. The urban nymph drapes in a lounge against the bar. If she was under brief scrutiny, there was no telling if her low-lidded attention picked up on it. She might have preened had she been witness. "Hey, nice job, yea'?" When Zack and Shadow came near. "And two you, too." Poking a finger out to point at Grace and then Blue. Pump the brakes a little. She caught G's look and he was on the receiving end of crossed gold speckled eyes a long with a pursed kissy face. Playful maenad that she is.

"Oh is that what ye be claimin' happened? Ye made sure I had a trade. Nae exactly the way I remember it but much was learned. And aye, 'ave me a ship too, Siren's Song." He'd understand the significance of that name, of course.

Expression of noting Peaches looked crazy across his face. Raises a brow in an amused fashion. "Are you saying you learned your business all on your own?" She'll learn that he'd take credit for everything good, and hardly anything bad if he could help it. He got the meaning of the ships name alright, and it made him cringe slightly if imperceptibly. "Is it a good ship? How many cannon, masts?"

A nudge off the bar, letting her fingers swirl in to lace up with Shadows. G and the lovely red head he was chatting with were given an upnod.

"She's a beaut, o'course. Two masts, twenty cannons. Fast and as agile as a dancer or one o'them elf people. Ne'er been caught at sea.” She actually knocked on the wood of the bar then reached for the tankard of ale. “Got me a battle mage on board too..." spoken idly and after the fact. Something she was proud of that cost her a handsome sum every time they sailed. A gulp of ale was taken when she noticed the blonde with the elf nodding in their direction prior to leaving. "Th'city is definitely not so bad." Her gaze shifted back to G. "I used the gifts the gods favored me with and got my ship. The sisters said t'wasn't a gift, but a demonic spirit possessin' me that caused me to 'ave this voice and to behave so badly." She'd snort and take another large gulp of the ale before wiping the back of her gloved hand across her mouth. "Tried to tell 'em it was just in m'blood." Another shrug.

Nods as he listens. Two masts, means she's decent size and quick especially with the elf comparison. Twenty cannon, means ten on each side. Okay. The threat assessed, he was so clever. Keep an eye out for that ship, for sure. He grins at the knock on wood, she's superstitious, to boot. Alright. He noticed the glance towards Peaches and had to chuckle at her response. "Definitely not. There's a lot this places has to offer. I'm guessing you'll be around here more, now. If you don't want to stay on the ship I know a nice place to set up camp for a while." She probably wouldn't, not for a little while what with being used to the sea most likely. He frowned at the mention of what the sisters said and shook his head. "Definitely no donations for those fools. They just don't get the blood thing. Clearly you take after me in more than just appearance if you drove the nuns batty." He chuckled, watching as she drank like a pro. "Battle mage, huh?" He nods, noting that with a look of being impressed. It's hard to convince mages to stick around on a ship because they're so fragile usually. "There can be an advantage to that. Especially if he knows a good portion of fire magic."

She wasn't his daughter in name only and had inherited a keen sense of judgement. There was nothing about her father that was fatherly and no question would just be asked in friendly conversation. Never one to tell all of her secrets, she fed him the information he sought and left the meat of it out. "I don't rightly trust land dwellers to be honest. They'll rob ye blind." Said with the most serious expression, it couldn't be a joke, right? A pirate complaining about a thief, priceless. "Plus, can't be lettin' the crew get too comfortable here or they'll get fat and lazy like you 'ave, daddy. Don’t ye miss the feel of the salty air slicking across yer hair and stickin' to yer skin?"

He would expect nothing less, of course. Never tip your hand early, especially to someone who dumped you off at a nunnery. Still, even if it wasn't all the information, it was decent enough. "You shouldn't really trust sea goers, either, just like land dwellers. They'll fly false colors and bait you in right before hoisting their own colors. And then rob you blind, deaf and mute." He grinned as he played that game. Feigns a look of hurt at the accusation of being fat and lazy. "I'm hardly fat and lazy, kid. Just because I haven't sunk a frigate in a few years doesn't mean I couldn't still do it. Besides, I live on my own private ship anyway and take her for sailing often." He didn't mention his girlfriend because they hadn't gotten to her mother yet. Might end up a sensitive subject, but after twelve years who knew. "So no, I don't exactly miss the feel of the air or the spray of the sea, because I still get it." Pause. "I steer clear of storms if I can help it, though."

"I follow the rule of ne'er trusting another soul completely. I learned at a young age that ye can't." He was given a pointed glare. Her gaze shifted over him and she gave a pitiful shake of her head since she assumed he was in denial. "So ye've grown soft is what yer sayin'. Got it." The tankard was tipped up and drained before being slammed down upon the bartop. The bottle of rum was hoisted up from the bar and held by its neck as she readjusted her swordbelt and turned to walk away. "Been nice chattin' with ye, daddy dearest. I'll be seein' yer old, wrinkly face soon 'nough, to be sure but right now I 'ave a crew likely terrorizing the local flavor on these docks and a mage to escort back." She tossed him a cold smile over her shoulder. "Try not to get a blade through the throat or get shot in the heart on your way home tonight." She was awfully specific about the ways he should avoid dying, wasn't she?

"You hate me for what I did. I get that. I'd apologize but I'm not sorry. It's made you what you are. How long have you been holding that grudge about? Is that why you came looking for me, to see what your old man ended up being?" A pause. None of that was said in anger or annoyance, just matter of factly. "Don't mistake my current life for having gone soft, my dear, sweet child. There's a lot to be said for experience, and I have a lot of years head start. You'll have to catch up." A small smile at the slight threat. "You won't have far to look for me the next time you want to chat. I'm very easy to find. Maybe you'll even get to catch me in a fight and see just how soft I'm not. Good luck with your crew." He gave her one of his more charming smiles that could also be a little dangerous as she walked off.

"I 'ave a bit o'experience o'my own, aye? Been a pirate before I e'en learned to walk, thanks be to ye. But I like me a good challenge. Keeps the boredom at bay and gives me a goal." She mirrored that charming smile with one of her own, not at all sincere, but definitely of the Talanador flavor. "Aye, mayhaps I will." And she made her way off of the ship, boots thunking heavily upon the wooden dock as she made her way down to the boardwalk to find her wayward crew.

He had to chuckle with a shake of his head. "Just like her old man. Always getting in that parting shot before an answer could be had. Not bad. Not bad." Grins and heads his own way.
