It was my honor to call the challenge for the Dragon's Gate Barony last night, issued by Melanie Rostol against Matthew Simon!

Miss Rostol was dueling under no colors or flag, and her Second and Lady of Honor was the Overlady, Terry King.

The defending baron dueled under the colors of black and white, with no Second, and named as his Ladies and Lord of Honor his wife Koyliak, daughter Thia, and son Malachite.

Mr. Simon chose a single duel format! Here's how it all went down:

Dragon's Gate 1! As we begin this struggle, we find both fighters employing caution! Melanie braces for a strong attack, while the Baron shows off some fine footwork! No score this round. (SH/FSS) 0-0

Dragon's Gate 2! The Baron opts to turn his footwork into a direct and powerful assault! The challenger, however, employs great skill in a low parry to protect herself! (FCP/TH) 1-0 Melanie

Dragon's Gate 3! Melanie's on the move, her speed a blur as she ducks down low to seek an opening against the Baron. He is keen to her dip, though, and strikes low to tie the score! (FDU/LC) 1-1

Dragon's Gate 4! The Baron moves in, opting for another fast lunge, but the Challenger decides, wisely, to defend with a high block! (LP/TH) 1.5-1 Melanie

Dragon's Gate 5! The action is fast, and furious, as Melanie strikes low, and Baron Simon high, for a trade! Mel maintains a slight edge! (LC/HC) 2.5-2 Melanie

Dragon's Gate 6! The cutting worked for both of them last round, and it does again this round, as both of these worthy fighters reverse their weapons in another trade! (HC/LC) 3.5-3 Mel

Dragon's Gate 7! After two rounds of exchanging punishment, the question is, will one of the fighters try to change the rhythm of the fight? This round, Melanie does with a step to one side, but Baron Simon's high cut lands and gives him the slight lead! (SS/HC) 4-3.5 Matt

Dragon's Gate 8! These two have really been going at it, as the close score indicates. Two skilled fighters, but only one can be victorious in this match! Still, it's good to take a breather where you can, right? Melanie braces, Matt dances - quite nicely - and the duel continues! (SH/FSS) 4-3.5 Matt

Dragon's Gate 9! Another breather round here, though they both still show off some advanced technique! Melanie's parry is high, Matt's low! (FLP/FCP) 4-3.5 Matt

Dragon's Gate 10! As we reach the two-third's mark in the duel, we find them both cautious, each looking for an opening! Caution yields points for neither, but they're sure looking good in there! Melanie goes low, and Matt uses his best footwork. (FDU/FSS) 4-3.5 Matt

Dragon's Gate 11! Offensive action returns! At least, on Mel's part, who lines up a punishing low blow, edging her into a slight lead over the ducking Baron! (LC/FDU) 4.5-4 Melanie

Dragon's Gate 12! Melanie keeps up her assault, trying to secure the win, and her first barony! Baron Simon, however, is quick on his feet - for an old man - and avoids her thrust to take us into true Sudden Death! (TH/SS) 4.5-4.5

Dragon's Gate 13! Things are heating up in here, and both fighters want this! They have fought their hearts out! However, clashing weapons make no score, and we remain in Sudden Death!! (HC/HC) 4.5-4.5

Dragon's Gate 14! This has been one fantastic duel, I must point out. It is seldom that we see such a close struggle between two such capable duelers. But all things must come to an end, and this one ends with Melanie lunging forward over Matt's low cut! Melanie secures the win, and the Barony of Dragon's Gate! (TH/LC)

Thus, in a single duel did Melanie overcome the reigning Baron, Matthew Simon, to claim the right to the Barony of Dragon's Gate. Congratulations to Melanie on a fine victory, and Matt on a fine reign!
