A Royal Thanksgiving

Post by JewellRavenlock »

Rena had explained the basics of Thanksgiving to The Empress, but despite the information from her assistant captain and although she had lived in RhyDin for many years now, the Faerie still didn’t quite understand. What she did comprehend was this: friends and family got together on the third Thursday of the mortal month of November; said friends and family were presented with a spread of yummy food so they could eat until they had to unbutton their pants; some type of sport was observed on a viewing device while copious amounts of alcohol were consumed; pie.

Therefore, once the preparations were done for the Overlord challenge match, Jewell got to work on putting together the best Thanksgiving ever! The event was going to be hosted at the Royal Rabble Club. Starting Wednesday afternoon, the upstairs lounge area was closed off to all members.

The regular, round dining tables were pushed to the left but remained accessible for after-meal card games. One giant table--capable of fitting all Royal Rabble Club members plus family and friends--was set up in the middle of the room. The couches and chairs were left alone on the right side of the room and viewing portals had been arranged nearby for those who wanted to take part in the sports observation activity. One portal viewer displayed five years of IFL fights. The other one had turtle racing. The final one had cute men wrestling in boxers.

After a brief debate between Raye (who was helping with the setup) and Jewell, when the former accused the latter of being prejudice against turkeys, the decorations around the club included a menagerie of animal cutouts and drawings.

And then there was dinner food (which seemed to be an odd assortment of all the food Jewell was thankful existed in RhyDin):
  • *spaghetti and meatballs
    *empanadas
*baba ganoush and fresh pita bread
    *chicken salad
    *green salad
    *chicken tortilla soup
    *Raye’s special ice cream soup*
    *vegetable stir fry
    *grilled steak
For dessert, there was a variety of pies (including chicken pot pie) and a cake shaped like a crown.

Invitations for the event had been sent out to all Royal Rabble Club members and included any additional friends and family.

((This is meant to be a board event which everyone/anyone can post to at their leisure. The event takes place throughout the day on Thursday, November 26, 2015. Feel free to have your character bring additional food, friends, interact with each other, play games, whatever!

The cheerleaders may or may not be in attendance.))

Jewell dragged Kal to the event with the promise that Raye would not make him do any work and they could absolutely take advantage of everyone else when playing cards after dinner.

Receiving several invitations for the holiday, Rayvinn went on a Tour de Barony. Of course she started the tour with the Dockside Barony party, being held in Little Elfhame, since the baroness was her bestie and she'd helped set up the party. Hostess gift: Dalmore whiskey.

Towards the hour of 5pm RST, Rayinn absconded with the Assistant Coordinator in order to play politics and accept the invitations from the other two baronies that had extended them. Much to her surprise, Brandon Fox had shown up at Jewell's party and accompanied the two elves on their tour citing that he needed to "check up on his interests."

Neither elf was particularly happy with this arrangement, but Rayvinn was far more delicate in her approach in dealing with calculating barrister; looping her arm through the one he offered. He was a shrewd man, she knew, but his manners were quite impeccable.

The tour would continue for only a couple of hours before returning to Little Elfhame, where Rayvinn would attempt to avoid being murdered at the hands of her hostess (for forcing Kalamere to work during the party), and trading entertaining stories with Brandon, trying to glean information from the man that she could use against him at a later time.

When Rayvinn and company returned to Little Elfhame, Nayun had been part of the small group. Still dressed as she had been for much of the day's events, except now she was sporting the mask gifted to her by Ravyinn. She removed it enough to take part in brief conversation; which, like before, would mostly be her replying with `I see`, `Is that so?`, and the normal usage of Yes's and No's.

Nayun already ate some time before, so she took a salad instead and poked/ate at it for some minutes before setting the fork aside. Dessert would be politely declined, as well as any sort of alcohol drink. Like at Bile's festive gathering; water was enough for her.

Sure, Jewell had made her choice to be Renegade to Nayun's reign, but the Adennian did not seem at all phased by this and it had no real effect on her attitude during the short time she spent at the party.

She took her leave after an hour and departed.

Bailey arrived fashionably late and alone, carrying a tall brown grocery bag that he set in the back near where most of the rest of the food was being kept. He mostly stayed quiet during dinner, and seemed rather nervous, although he deflected any questions asked about said nervousness. At some point during the evening, he turned his attention toward the portal showing old IFL fights. His eyes couldn't help but drift toward the portal with the boxer-clad male wrestlers. If caught watching, he would blush something fierce.

About halfway through the evening, he snuck off to the men's room, spending just a little more time in there than necessary. If asked, he would claim he was "touching up his makeup", but he also seemed a little more outgoing and friendly after his trip to the little boys' room. At some point, he commandeered the bar, and began mixing up caipirinhas with the ingredients he had brought in that brown bag: a bottle of cachaça, a bag of sugar, limes, and sticks of sugar cane.

By the time Bailey left, he was a bit wobbly, laughing giddily as he disappeared into the night. The remainder of those ingredients (and an unopened bottle of cachaça) were left behind, as a sort of impromptu gift.

Ketch attended the festivities with his friend Fin in tow, lured by free food (even if he didn't partake of much besides the empanadas) and company he was mostly comfortable around. He brought an oversized bottle of Wild Turkey which he drank from liberally and also shared with any who expressed an interest in the harder stuff.

He was quiet without being rude, seemed in an affable mood, and settled into an observational role as he tended to do when conversation was pinging around. Fin, being the more lively and social of the two, took up the conversational slack and also helped himself to seconds, then thirds of the food.

For a quarter of an hour Ketch was fixated by the turtle racing, either out of dumb fascination or having lost himself in a fugue. He shook it off in time to indulge in Bailey's caipirinhas and then stationed himself at the card table, willing to entertain all takers in anything from Go Fish to Texas Hold 'Em.

Once the crowd began to depart, he took his leave as well, only the faintest of hitches in his step and perhaps a steadying hand thrown out once or twice to give away how sauced he was.

Having heard that free food was in the offing, Eden managed to finagle some off-handed invites from Lirssa and Bailey to the Royal Thanksgiving and that was more than enough for her to feel totally justified in showing up and camping out for the night!

She was a lively dinner guest, excited about this holiday of sharing food. She questioned anyone within earshot about it at length (what's a pilgrim?, what's an indian?, why do they call it stuffing?, where's america?, etc.). Her own contribution to the feast had been a couple packages of microwave popcorn. Upon discovering that the Club didn't currently have a microwave, she popped the popcorn herself, which meant it was warm and buttery, and every fluffy kernel was bright pink. She set the bowl of pink popcorn on the table anyhow with her own enthusiastic flourish. TADA!

She circulated the party excitedly, introducing herself to anyone who would tolerate her bouncing in front of them for a few minutes, and explored the buffet with Fin, making him try things and tell her what they tasted like before putting them on her plate. By the end of the meal, she was pretty certain that baba ganoush was made up of ground up slugs with garlic, that green salad was pointless, and Raye's special ice cream soup was the GREATEST THING OF ALL TIME!

Getting happily drunk on Bailey's caipirinhas, she played cards with Ketch and whomever else as long as she could keep her eyes open and eventually fell asleep on an armchair where she spent the night, warm and cozy and stuffed from her very first Thanksgiving!

Kate showed up in comfy clothes, ready to get her EAT on. Bags of expensive vodka were brought, a turkey sticker slapped on the outside of each one. That made it festive, right?

She played cards, gambled with some of Hal's money (he shouldn't leave his office unlocked), ate her weight in food, drank triple that in vodka and generally had a damn good time with her teammies.
