Things like the above which were done and held and not revisited due to reasons not tied to administration.
My opinion is that anything that gets done for incentives on a team basis that isn't already being done, needs to be done by the players, and that the administration should not have any cause to take a role in it.
Say that again? Allowing anyone to challenge based on a team performance is suggesting benefits to challenge rights based on team orientation.Rakeesh wrote:I don't think that I was suggesting any crazy benefits to challenge rights/etc based on team orientation. Moreover, I was thinking (in a general way) of things maybe like ...
- Seasonal (meaning one per season cycle) team-based tournaments with specific titles/bragging rights to the winners. Possibly a challenge grant of some sort to the winning team's MVP, something reasonable and balanced.
And I would argue that that is not something that should be the responsibility of the Duel of Swords staff. The Duel of Swords has way more than enough to take advantage of that the players relatively ignore. And some of the things that were ignored in the past were just removed or forgotten. (I.E. Requirement for Barons to hold invitational tournaments for their squire, challenging for the tag team titles, etc.)- A year (or most of a year, perhaps) long swords team "season" with accumulation of wins (not wins-vs-losses) or a point system that includes things like challenging for titles or gaining ranks and all forms of activity. Perhaps some sort of championship match at the end of the year to cap it all off.
These things are already in place. They're called Hydra and IFL at the moment. Anything you place on the Sports Specific staff is adding further complication to the rules. Doesn't matter if they're for challenging or not. I mentioned that the staff has a limited amount of options that they, as staff, can offer as incentives for anything. And anything they give as incentives would affect the game mechanics in a positive way for those on teams, and negative ways for those who cannot or choose not to be involved in a team.So I'm talking about the addition of events that would encourage ongoing team play in DoS without needing to further complicate the current challenge system. The key would be to design events that encourage players to encourage their friends to be active, to roleplay, to duel, but without being so demanding that it wouldn't be sustainable.
Reward based, structured systems worked, briefly, before the interest in them fizzled out. Special incentive based run events, tournaments, or leagues run better with player administration rather than official RoH administration, because they have more than enough on their plate to worry about than trying to structure yet another set of rules that will benefit select groups of people.Sure. People can just go make something happen and make it their own thing, and that's cool and often valuable. But reward-based, structured systems work to encourage activity engagement for a reason. Totally worth thinking about. And I'm glad that it seems like Sylus/Kalamere seem to be already thinking about it.
