Gatito sat upon the roof of his little tree cottage in the Sakura Stand neighborhood, listening to the whispers riding upon the breeze. He was not alone.

“They’re asking me to choose,” he said to the Celestial Tiger seated next to him.

The big, ethereal beast yawned, flashing its long fangs. They are, it said. What will you decide?

“I don’t know. How do I know what’s right here?”

I do not think there is a right here, Little One. There is only right for you.

“Right for me.” Gatito’s tapered into a hum.

They were silent for a time while Gatito thought about it. Even the whispers themselves seemed to cease, as though the Isle itself were awaiting an answer.

Witches or vampires? He supposed he was a bit closer to one than the other, but …

He thought about graphite upon paper. The smell of kretek, a day removed. A private sort of smile.

A taste of copper in a kiss.

“Vampires,” he said softly into the breeze. “I choose vampires.”

Elsewhere on the Isle, his name appeared upon a list, the letters of it shimmering golden until they were set.

Early in the month, just a few days after he’d first heard the whispers and seen the official notice about the Dread Energy—and after he’d spent almost an entire evening evening teasing his partner about the fun and virtues of having a household rivalry—Rhys remembered to return to the Isle’s notice board. He penned his name right next to Dris’, in support of the Witches.

The dread energies have been removed and the tale of the Witches and Vampires who aided the brave pumpkin bomb throwing adventurers has come to an end!

As for those the Duskside pranksters who caused this.. it is said they escaped into the night.
Just what mischief will they cause next?
